Lysistrata is a legendary Queen of Sparta from the Fifth Century BC. According to Greece, she persuaded the women of Greece to withhold sexual favors from their husbands and lovers in order to get them to finally negotiate peace and end the Peloponnesian War which was fought in three waves between Athens and Sparta from 431 to 404 BC. Her legend and conviction inspires Mrs. Howell to lead Ginger and Mary Ann to withhold the menial chores from the men until they get their own huts.
