Christian Nyby was an American television and film director of episodes in many television series, including "Gunsmoke," "The Twilight Zone," "I Spy," "Lassie," "Perry Mason," "The Rockford Files," "The Six Million Dollar Man," "Ironside," "Kojak" and "Wagon Train."
Born in Los Angeles, California on September 1, 1913, Nyby started his career as a film editor in the Forties, later editing four films directed by Howard Hawks. He was nominated the Academy Award for "Red River." He also directed four movies, including "Hell on Devil's Island," "Young Fury," "Operation C.I.A." and "First to Fight." The most influential film in his career was "The Thing from Another World" in 1951, which continued to attract viewers and critical attention more than fifty years after its release; it was selected in 2001 for preservation in the US National Film Registry. Nyby was the father of Christian Nyby II, who became a prolific television director in his own right. He died at the age of 80 in Temecula, California on September 17, 1993. There are no known photos for him.
